Topper and other real people

"Dilbert" is on a roll with this Topper character. He looks just like a few of the other Dilbert office-types, but Topper really reminds me of a few people, even down to his deprecating body language (the boastful arms, the "been-there-done-that" stoop) and it's only a matter of time before Catbert gets to him. Even the evil must fry in "Dilbert", which lends cred to the concept that there is, alas, justice on Earth.

He just came out of nowhere this Topper character and he is so over-the-top hilarious.

I thought of you again the other evening . I had been waiting on a couple of blokes from England who were reading the comics section of the New York Daily News while waiting for their food. I noticed they were having a spirited conversation about one of the strips that they couldn't seem to understand. They didn't get what was funny about it.

It turned out to be one of the "Mutts" series with the crabby crab who swears a lot. And, being the Futch on Funnies acolyte that I am, I helped them out.

For the rest of their meal, they kept asking me questions about different strips and the backstory for the different characters.

Thought only you could appreciate this anecdote. Happy weekend!

How funny is that? They're trying to figure out "Mutts" and we're doing the same with "Fred Bassett" - hah! We should have buttons that identify us - the proud, the few, the tooned in...
